Is it true things happen for a reason?
I chose this question because it fits with all three stories we read; The Pardoners Tale, The Wife Of Bath's Tale, and Sir Gawain and The Green Knight. The Pardoners Tale: The three men found that gold to prove to them that money can turn you against your dearest friends. The Wife Of Bath's Tale: The man was meant to find the old women and marry her. If he would have never made that promise with her, he wouldn't be married to the love of his life. Sir Gawain and The Green Knight: Gawain was put under the test of the king with find out if he was loyal or not. Whether he should have lived or not.

Steve is the Protagonist of the book Mythago Wood. So far, Steve has had to deal with his fathers death, his brother leaving for two weeks; then come to find out that his brother had killed his wife, Guiwenneth. At this moment, of the first part of Mythago Wood, Steve is running from The Mythago while Christopher attempts to lead this foal beast away and farther into the woods. Steve becomes curious of what it looks like and searches over his shoulder, come to find out that the Mythago had heard Steve, becoming Steve's worst nightmare; he began to follow Steve. Ultimate courage would have to be defined as regular courage. In a way, it is just stating that one person may have more courage than another. It would all depend on who you ask; some would say that courage is when someone stands up to what frightens them and ultimate courage is when they go on a rampage and jump off cliffs or take a bullet for someone. Other people would say that there isn't much difference between the two. Courage is courage, no matter the issue.
To me, I believed that Spencer did have ultimate courage. It takes a lot to stand up to a man with a gun pointed straight at you. People say, never bring a knife to a gun fight; imagine having just your bare hands at a gun fight! You would have to have a lot of courage built up to attempt to go up to a man with just your bare hands while he has a gun pointed at you. Courage itself can be a difficult thing to get, depending on the situation. If you were going to jump off of a cliff and into a pool of water where there may be small rocks that barely hurt you, or rocks just below the water line, it would take a lot to get the courage to jump. Your life is at risk, for what; having the guts to jump off a cliff and drop a hundred feet? The real situation for courage would be if a hundred peoples lives were at risk and you saved all of theirs; maybe losing your life, maybe not. Which would would rather do? Radix malorum est cupiditas. This quote is Latin for "The love of money is the root of all evil", as Geoffrey quotes in the poem 'The Pardoner's Tale'. In The Pardoner's Tale, the pardoner preaches this quote over and over again in all of his texts; only he is very hypocritical and denounces the very vice that he practices. The pardoner preaches about sins and evil of money, only to intimidate the members into donating.
The pardoner shares a story of three rioters that go adventure out to If there was one thing in my life that is so important to me, that I would give my life away for, it would have to be for my grandmother, Betty. Betty may not be my grandmother by blood, but family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what. If it wasn't for Betty, I wouldn't be the person that I am today. I learned so many things from her that make me who I am today. Because of Betty, I know my manners, my rights and wrongs, how to cook, how to talk, my numbers and ABC's; heck, I even learned how to use the bathroom because of her. With my parents being so busy with work all the time, I was there from 8 in the morning to 5:30 at night, sometimes later. With me being the second and last child, I wasn't too high on their priority list. The way I see my parents and sister act today, it makes me happy that I met Betty when I was 2 years old; still young enough to learn what I need to learn. If I would have never met Betty, I wouldn't be as respectful and mature as I am today; just by seeing how my sister grew up and turned out to be like. It's not just because what Betty has done for me these past 14 years, it's also how Betty treats you. She makes sure you are loved as soon as you step foot in her house and as soon as you leave, you may be sad that you have to go, but you will always have a smile on your face.
A detective goes to a crime scene where there was a suicide committed. A girl is lying on the sidewalk dead. The detective goes into the seven story building where they said the girl jumped from. The detective goes to the first floor, puts a coin on the floor, opens the window and looks down. The detective then goes to the second floor, puts a coin down, opens the window, and looks down. The detective repeats this process for all seven floors. The detective then goes back down to the first floor, walks out to the police and states that is was not a suicide, but a murder instead. How did he know this?
Beowulf and The Iliad have many similarities. I feel like in both exerts, the characters have lots of ambition to fight. In the first poem, we read Beowulf when to fight the horrible monster Grendel even though all odds are against him (page 34, line 30-40). I think that you would have to have a lot of ambition to go to someone else's country to fight a beast that could quite possibly take you life. In The Iliad (page 71) Hector has lots of Ambition and drive to fight Achilles even when Achilles is known as the great runner. When Hector realizes hen doesn't have a chance against Achilles, he still tries to reason with him and I think that would take a lot of guts. Both Beowulf and Achilles had fame, just in different ways. Beowulf was all about fame because he killed Grendel, Grendel's mother and the dragon. Achilles didn't stand out as the "fight for fame" stereotype. He seems more like a fighter to show off what kind of abilities he has because of his godlike traits. It seems that Achilles' fights are more from emotion than Beowulfs' does.
Both stories also have many differences. To me, it seemed like fame was more of a drive in Beowulf than in the Iliad. Achilles let his emotions play a major role in his choices. Beowulf more so wanted the world to know that he was a food person and a great fighter. They both seemed quite stubborn in there ways of making choices and if they were to meet, I do not think that they would get along very well together at all. In Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, sets sail to the Danes land in order to defeat a monster named Grendel. In the film The 13th Warrior, the character that represents Beowulf, Buliwyf, sets out to defeat a race, not a single monster and its mother, the race of Wendols.
Even though their locations seem similar, they are different. The biggest discrepancy is the amount of battles. Beowulf contained three battles, while The 13th Warrior contained four battles. first, Beowulf defeats Grendel, the terrifying swampland creature, who is killing Hrothgar's people at Mead Hall. Then he goes underground into a cave to fight Grendel's mother and finally, fifty years later, in Beowulf's hometown, he fights the dragon that destroys him. In The 13th Warrior, the location of the battles follows a somewhat different pattern of locations. As in Beowulf, the first and third battle are the same, but the second and fourth battle differs. The second battle involves the creatures with torches that the characters referred to as a dragon. Beowulf did not even have a fourth battle. The 13th Warrior shows a fourth battle as being back in Herot where the first battle took place. Similarities between The 13th Warrior and Beowulf are there to be clearly seen. For example, when Ahmed and his men were attacked by the cannibalistic warriors in the large hut, and they fought with all their might trying to defeat the leader of the Wendols. In Beowulf, when the hero and warrior of the story, Beowulf fights and defeats Grendel in the mead-hall. We can see the similarities as both warriors were attacked in their own place. Differences between The 13th Warrior and Beowulf are the religion and nationalities. For example, Beowulf is Anglo-Saxon and Ahmed is Arabic. Beowulf, as mentioned, is Anglo-Saxon and Buliwyf is Swedish. Another difference between the two stories is the narration. Beowulf is told in third person while The 13th Warrior is told in first person. Both leaders in Beowulf and The 13th Warrior have similar names. Beowulf, as we know, is Beowulf and in The 13th Warrior, the leaders name is Buliwyf, showing us evidence that The 13th Warrior was based on Beowulf. Beowulf slays the mother of Grendel while Buliwyf slays the mother of the Wendol, showing us more evidence that The 13th Warrior was based off of Beowulf. The central idea in both Beowulf and The 13th Warrior is the same, an existence of an old race and the need for an epic hero. In both Beowulf and The 13th Warrior, there is an epic hero, an existence of an old race, and the need for the hero to save someone form the race. Throughout The 13th Warrior and Beowulf, the warriors tend to show off their attributes and physical talents. The plot thickens in a different way, and is resolved differently also. The main characters are different, with similar goals, but different reasons for doing what they do. The central idea never changes, and is constant theme throughout both The 13th Warrior and Beowulf. The differences in the setup of the film and poem definitely outweigh the similarities of the plot and general concept are easily seen. In my eyes, true love does exist, but there are many people out there that mistake liking someone as true love. True love is when the two of you are best of friends; you two can trust each other, tell each other anything and everything; you know that person like the back of your hand. Living with out that person is like living without water; you would be nothing. I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to live anymore, but it would surely be very hard without them. People these days mistake that for dating for a month, or two, and they just love each other so much. Results show that it takes almost two years to completely know someone. How could someone say that they found their true love when they have only known them for a few months; or have been dating them for a few months. Their is no difference in being best friends with someone for many years, and then begin to date them. Being best friends and dating someone is a whole new ball game. There are similarities, but you get to know the person in a whole new way once you start dating them. You start to notice things that you never have before. This is why people should wait to take things to the next level until they get married. That level itself shouldn't be done till after a few years of dating; even more is better. After a year of dating, try living together. Many people get married and begin to live with each other and the whole marriage is ruined; it leads to divorce. It's best to take these little steps and take your time in the relationship rather than just jumping into things. Time and trust is the key to a good relationship; and trust takes awhile to earn.
